On February 10, 2026, Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo presented a proclamation endorsed by the entire City Council and Mayor John Whitmire honoring Friends of BARC for its longstanding work at BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions. Board members were present to receive the award and to provide a summary of the many achievements Friends of BARC has had working with the animals at BARC.
In addition to Friends of BARC board members, also on hand were BARC Director Jarrad Mears and BARC Deputy Director Nikki Cooper, along with Councilman Castillo and Mayor Whitmire.
Friends of BARC is very proud to receive this recognition on behalf of all the animals at BARC.
