After suddenly losing my rescue of seven years this past February, the heartbreak felt impossible to navigate. Seeking a way to cope, I began supporting dogs in need across Texas, which eventually led me to BARC. Though the specific dog I initially set out to save had already found a home, I decided to stay and walk some of the pups. That’s when I saw him. A lonely, surrendered puppy who didn’t rush the gate like the others. I felt an instant pull to him. He was terrified at first, but after some quiet soothing, he fell fast asleep on my chest, and I knew I couldn’t leave without him. Watching him finally come out of his shell and learn how to truly be a puppy has been the most incredible, healing experience. He didn’t just find a home, he helped me find my way through the grief and I love him so much!
