Friends of BARC recently revived a BARC service that began 15 years ago to provide training to adopters at BARC to ensure their new pets adjust to home life in a safe and healthy manner.
Once your adoption is complete, you can sign up for the 6-week training course with an experienced behaviorist who will provide basic obedience training and tips to allow you and your family to welcome your new four-legged companion to transition from shelter life to home life.
Bringing a new pet into the household can be a challenging experience for anyone. Zoila Soto, a compassionate and passionate trainer, will provide you and your family with simple yet effective tools to welcome your newest family member, especially if you are a first-time pet owner or you already have other pets in the household. Too often, animals are returned to the shelter because the new dog “didn’t mesh well” with the existing dog(s) or the new dog lacked basic obedience skills and made life chaotic in the home. You will learn how to make that integration a positive one as your family expands in a healthy and happy way. An obedient dog is a happy dog, and a happy dog makes a family complete. We want you and your newest family member to live a long, healthy life together.
Meet the Trainer—Zoila Soto
“At a young age I was given a pup I named Scarlet. Little did I know she began to alert me to a medical problem I never knew I had, Scarlet’s life-saving scent work abilities, while untrained, sparked a passion to learn more about dog training. We worked together side by side for her whole 15 years of life, beginning in high school with her Service Dog Training, then after high school becoming a Vet Tech for 3 years with Banfield to receive an offer from Petco to become a Dog Trainer, a position I held for 9 years where I received a promotion to a Duel Client Service Manager & Sr. Dog Trainer. Scarlet and I taught Basic Obedience, Behavior Modification training, Puppy S.T.A.R.R & Canine Good Citizen (C.G.C) Programs while taking in transport fosters for Best Friends Animal Society to prep those dogs for transportation through crate training & basic obedience. After Leaving Petco I went to BARC Animal shelter where I worked as an Animal Care Technician for 4 years while I obtained my ABCDT Certification and worked with shelter dogs and opened up Scarlet Wolf Dog training where I helped with some of the adopters off the clock. Fortunately I received an offer to work with Peace Love Dogs and remained with them for 3 years before leaving to reopen my Dog Training Business. I am currently working at a vet clinic while juggling motherhood, college, my own business, being a full-time Vet Tech Assistant & the BARC BUDDY ACADEMY Program. I am certified through Animal Behavior College, Grisha Stewart Academy, I am a member of the Association for Professional Dog Training (APDT). Even though Scarlet has passed, everything she has taught me will live on in every dog I help and that is all I could ever ask for, for the dog who saved me.”Zoila Soto, ABCDT
