MUTTS, MEOWS AND MARGARITAS 2019 RECAP!

MUTTS, MEOWS AND MARGARITAS 2019 RECAP!

MUTTS, MEOWS AND MARGARITAS 2019 RECAP!

Our 12th annual MMM is in the books, and a great time was had by all who joined us at Cadillac Bar on October 26th.

This was our second year back at our original venue, and we think we’re going to stick around a while. The parking is super convenient, location is central, food is always delicious and the Cadillac staff treats us like gold! But what made this year special, as always, is the great rescue friends who came together for a casual night of big fun.

Party goers enjoyed frozen Margaritas, a full dinner bar, a live auction with professional auctioneer Corey Pullen, a silent auction with 48 items (something for everyone!), the always popular photobooth, great raffle prizes, some pretty awesome door prizes, our famous FOB Dog House with lots of goodies to buy and donate, and the Halloween-themed costume contest. Casey Curry served as our perennial emcee, and we hope to lock her up for a long-term contract as well!

Thank you, Brenda Cheney, our Event (and live auction) Chairperson, Lauren Ayres, this year’s silent auction Chairperson, and all the dedicated volunteers who make this event an annual success.

We’re already booked for October 17, 2020 for MMM 2020!!! Mark your calendars.

Houston World Series of Dog Shows

Friends of BARC once again participated in the Houston World Series of Dog Shows held at NRG Arena from July 18-22, 2018. We had our usual double booth with excellent exposure to the general public to learn how Friends of BARC helps the homeless pet population at BARC. In addition, we offered microchipping for dogs, and educated many folks about the need to microchip their animals. The Dog Show has something for everybody: Breed competitions, Rescue groups, Animal-related vendors, Artwork, Contests and Food. This year, Friends of BARC invited Doug Markison to our booth to show off his talents as a dog trainer. Doug brought two of his four-legged proteges, who performed remarkable tricks on Sunday to gawking onlookers.

A great time was had by all, especially when we found Mike Kinsella’s doppelganger working another rescue booth. The resemblance is uncanny!

GLOSS Photography Highlights

Friends of BARC board members participated in a well-attended fundraising event on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Jack Meier Art Gallery in Houston. Photographer (and Harris County Juvenile District Court Judge) Michael Schneider, along with Bill Daniel, opened their two-week exhibit of 20th Century 8 x 10 film negatives of movie and television stars enlarged as 20 x 24 silver gelatin fiber prints, the first of its kind in any exhibit.

All proceeds from the sale of the prints goes to Friends of BARC during the exhibit, which raised over $3000 on opening night.

Guests enjoyed food and wine, and were treated to an explanation of how the prints were created by Judge Schneider.
Recognizing that BARC will become overwhelmed with animals as a result of Hurricane Harvey, Judge Schneider reached out to Friends of BARC (again!) as the fundraising partner for this wonderful exhibit.
