Celebrating its 10th annual Mutts, Meows and Margaritas in grand fashion on Saturday, September 23, 2017, Friends of BARC enjoyed a wonderful night with friends and supporters of Houston’s homeless animal community at BARC. Approximately 200 guests dined on Mexican fare at the Marriott West Loop in the Galleria, and enjoyed a dazzling display of silent auction items, an exciting raffle with top prizes, dressing up in the photo booth or relaxing with a delicious frozen Margarita. Live auctioneer Cory Pullen entertained the crowd with eleven exciting items up for auction, enticing the crowd into several bidding wars with great success.

Meteorologist Casey Curry served once again as our host emcee, always a crowd pleaser.

A special tribute was given to Texas Capital Bank and the guests they brought, for committing to another $50,000 grant to treat all the heartworm positive dogs at BARC. This is Texas Capital Bank’s third year committing to this noble community service event. Our heartworm treatment program was also renamed, as announced to the crowd, to the Clarence Edgar Davis, Jr. Heartworm Treatment Program Sponsored by Texas Capital Bank in honor of long-time BARC employee and original Friends of BARC founder Clarence Davis, who passed away suddenly in November, 2016. This is Friends of BARC’s largest annual endeavor, striving to never let a heartworm positive dog remain at the shelter because a willing adopter or foster cannot afford the costly heartworm treatments at a private vet clinic. With the assistance of Texas Capital Bank, we are able to subsidize the full heartworm treatment at BARC for hundreds of dogs each year, eclipsing the previous years’ total by significant numbers. Thank you to BARC and their entire veterinarian staff for their dedication to this program.

Another special tribute was given to our dear friends at Robinson Pipe Company. The two Robinson families who make up Robinson Pipe contribute both their money and time tirelessly to Friends of BARC and BARC, as well as other community service missions, especially where animals are in need. We salute you, Robinson Pipe!

And lastly, a special thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers who help pull off this event. Presenting Sponsors Ben and Jen Ho made this night special not just with their financial commitment, but their creation of the silent auction items, which never disappoints the crowd. Event chairperson Brenda Cheney does the heavy lifting, making this event a success every year with her dedication to Friends of BARC. We are grateful to Brenda’s hard work and persistence in making this event more special every year. Thank you to Honorary Chairpersons Harry and Tracy Faulkner, who have been steadfast benefactors to Friends of BARC and host a kickoff party each year preceding this event called “Beads For BARC” at their beautiful home in Houston.

Stay tuned for information about next year’s Mutts, Meows and Margaritas event. It will be hard to top this one, but WE WILL!!!
